The first time I saw the words "Windows 96" today, I questioned my memory—thither wasn't really a variation of Windows in between 95 and 98 that everyone had forgotten about, was there? Well, kinda—only it was canceled before beingness discharged in public. Windows96.net, then, is a "what if" for '90s Windows, a full web browser-based OS that imagines what another interpretation of the classic chunky Windows might've looked equal.

At a glance Windows 96 could probably fool you into thinking it's the real heap. The old icons for Computer and Trash and Settings are dead happening. The Start Menu is its classic self, with nested folders containing useable utilities similar a period of time and too a "WTF" booklet with a pretend Trojan in it. But there are lots of modern touches besides, like a link out to the project's Discord and a live chat program that connects you with everyone other currently using Windows 96.

There's also a Linux-style package manager you ass use to set up programs with a single click, including the shareware version of Doom and the Half life demo, as well. The Javascript code powering Windows 96 is clearly cunning and modern to let you brawl totally this in the web browser, even though IT's trying to search decades old.

My dearie touch is that Windows 96 lets you install emulators like DOSBox, which means you can also extend Windows 95 inside Windows 96. Historical Windows, inside fake Windows, inside Chromium-plate—pretty wild. I also tried to boot up Internet Explorer privileged Windows 95, only that crashed the web browser. That actually matte up appropriate. If it didn't crash, it wouldn't be classic Windows.

Wes plays a little bite of everything, simply he'll always pass over at the chance to cover emulation and Japanese games. When he's not compulsively optimizing and re-optimizing a mat of conveyor belts in Alright (it's really becoming a trouble), he's probably performin a 20-year-old RPG or some opaque ASCII roguelike.
